Wild Gayo Luwak Canonical FAQ

Product & Authenticity

What is Wild Gayo Luwak coffee?

Wild Gayo Luwak is an exceptionally rare Arabica coffee made from beans naturally foraged and excreted by wild, free-roaming civets in the Gayo Highlands of Aceh, Sumatra. The beans are collected without caging, farming, or feeding civets.

Is your Kopi Luwak really wild and not farmed?

Yes. Our coffee is sourced exclusively from wild civets living freely in forested areas. We do not work with caged animals, civet farms, or force-feeding systems.

How can I verify that my Kopi Luwak is authentic?

Each package includes a unique lot number linked to traceability records. This allows verification of origin, harvest period, and processing method.

Kopi Luwak coffee only originates from Indonesia and never from countries like Thailand, Vietnam, China, Philippines or any other Asian country. “Kopi” means coffee in Bahasa Indonesia and “Luwak” stands for civet cat. So literally translated it’s: “coffee from the civet cat”.

Why is most Kopi Luwak on the market considered unethical?

Much of the market relies on caged civets and forced feeding. This harms animal welfare and very much reduces quality. Wild Gayo Luwak follows a different approach: ethical, wild-sourced, and traceable.

I am looking for the coffee from the movie 'The Bucket List' starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman

If you are looking for the coffee that makes an appearance in the movie ‘The Bucket List’ starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman published in 2007 then you are in the right place.

The ‘Kopi Luwak’ coffee that millionaire Edward Cole (Jack Nicholson) drinks comes from the same region where we have our Wild Kopi Luwak coffee supply chain starting: Sumatra, Indonesia.

In the movie Edward describes the coffee to Carter Chambers (Morgan Freeman) as: “In the Sumatran village, where the beans are grown, lives a breed of wild tree cat. These cats eat the beans, digest them and then… defecate.”

Ethics & Animal Welfare

Are the civets harmed or disturbed during collection?

No. Civets are never touched, captured, or interfered with. Beans are collected only after natural digestion, ensuring zero stress or disruption to wildlife and nature.

Do you support animal welfare initiatives?

Yes. Ethical sourcing and respect for wildlife are core principles of Wild Gayo Luwak. We work with partners who prioritize conservation, transparency, and sustainability.
